Do Indian-Americans really want to share a political (or social) identity with Faisal Shahzad? I don't think so.

Interaction between the communities at the cultural level, given the commonalities (curries, mehndi, ghazals, saris, and what not), is fine, but getting branded politically (and socially) into this "South Asian" identity has overwhelming downsides for Indian-Americans and not much upside to it. Ethnic politics suck anyway, but this particular formula, i.e. doing it through the "South Asian American" identity, is especially toxic for IAs.
