I don’t understand the recent trend among desi politicians of renouncing their background and religions to become “white” and assimilate in order to run as REPUBLICANS! Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley do NOT make me proud and I do not want them to represent the South Asian diaspora in America. There are so many SA local politicians in NJ and CA who are Democrats and embrace their culture; why don’t we get behind them as a brown community and support them so they can stand at a level where people start considering them for major political positions?

Fitsnews.com is a right-leaning website that follows South Carolina politics. On this item, Meet the Bindi, you can read how some posters are getting ticked off that Haley's Republican primary opponents are trying to make her Indian background a negative issue. There seems to be a generational and regional divide among voters in SC. Younger Republican voters that live near its cities seem to dismiss ethnicity, while the Republican Old Guard feel there is still plenty of mileage in playing the race card. Granted, one blog post is not representative of the whole state, but I think we will see some very interesting things during the course of their primary.
