In person they are your everyday nice desi guys who come from very respectable households, yet their music makes it seem otherwise! Am I missing something here? I understand they are speaking up against a lot of misconceptions and issues, but can they for the love of God tone it down? Please....
I do admire Basim and Shaj for following their dreams, though am many a times perplexed as to why they are sooo confrontational in their music. I think it's a movement perpetuated by Muslims but I don't believe it has anything to do with Islam because Muslims believe that the Quran is the perfect book and that Islam is the perfect religion so the argument that some parts of the Quran are archaic and irrelevant doesn't make sense to me. But with that said, you do your thing and i'll do mine.
My whole problem with this Taqwacore or Progressive Islamic movement is that people are trying to label this as an Islamic movement which I don’t think is correct. Kind of like Muttontown, New York. Anyways, I find these guys trying their best to be provocative and also being somewhat confrontational about their religion.

In the above passage, they're attacking Christianity's chastity. Well, these boys should realize that in Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc., girls get acid on their faces for revealing their ankles. And, sure, the prophet Mohammad had more than 4 wives, including a 6 year older named Ayesha. So these kids are, in a way, glorifying statutory rape at the expense of Christianity. Moreover, if a Pakistani or some other Muslim girl had more than one husband at a time or were "sex-positive", she'd be stoned to death (with rocks, and not stoned with cannabis like other punk fans). Heck, the MC5 - now they ROCKED the CASBAH - talked about racism (they were members of the White Panthers). The Clash spoke about race riots, Middle Eastern wars, etc. The MC5 and the Clash had far out political views, that ironically, we all accept to be mainstream these days.

Finally, I'd love for these boys to express their views - I'm sure that they're trying hard to be blissfully ignorant - of the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Bangladesh against all non-Muslims.
