I'm with sa @ 19. Piglet, that person is being sarcastic and saying that it's no surprise that postcolonial novelists support Obama. Indeed, perhaps it's not. But I didn't post about it for shock value!

Whether Rushdie would be as reknowned were it not for his religious taunting, who knows?

Rushdie was already writing riveting novels before the fatwa. He would have been renowned for the caliber of his writing irrespective. And asking the government to provide security is well within the obligations government provides its citizens. And when did writing a novel become religous taunting?
