He always said, Neil when you come back to India we will travel together. "You have seen and experienced a part of India I never knew existed." I never expected him to pass so soon. Time flies. Next year I plan to take my daughter, who I delivered at home myself, and who was born the year after I met Sunil. She was born on the anniversary of Nargis Dutt's death. I never saw a man who loved his wife and missed her as much as Sunil missed Nargis. He made me promise I would do something special for people who had the disease and the condition of Nargis. I will keep my word.
I had the honor of meeting Sunil Dutt, visiting the Ajanta Studios, under his house, having lunch with him and Priya, his daughter, treating him medically, and spending a few days with him in 1984 when in Bombay with my wife. That movie was SO depressing and dysfunctional... it was fantastic. This is sad news, but at least he lead a full life and left a lasting legacy.
Anna, my first memory of Sunil Dutt (and Bollywood films for that matter) is also Mother India.
