GC – a quick reply..I know homely in american english has a different meaning,but since this was about M’s literary skills which are no doubt excellent, I preferred and choose a different meaning for the same word (Indian english).. And even if u are homely in the american sense, does not mean u need to be humble bec. of that..u can still be arrogant and have pride over ur other skills like intellect/education/literary skills etc.,and still be homely (in the american way:-)

BTW GC homely doesnot only mean “homely” in a girlish way, it also means “simple and unpretentious nature”..and I think thats a wonderful compliment.. To be humble and homely are great virtues..

Oh, I’m aware that it means something different in Indian English. But in American English, if you’re homely you have a damn good reason to be humble!

Thanks Ennis, Manish surely is talented and knows how to play well with words..I read his poetry too at his website.. hmm… parttime job at hallmark cards is too simple/straightforward for him..Manish’s writing has humor and wit and probably needs to be probably a script writer for political satire/comedy show (like Jon stewarts show).. Anyway this is a good intellectual/linguistic exercise. May be Manish should blog more on words like these..
