Secret Trial Five
Secret Trial Five is an all-girl Taqwacore band from Toronto, Canada. Sena Hussain originally decided to form Secret Trial Five in Vancouver with four friends after she heard about what The Kominas were doing in Boston. Sena took the name from a group of Muslims suspected of terrorism who were at the time being held without charge in Canada. They made a myspace account and put up lyrics for a song called “Hey Hey Hey Guantanamo Bay”. In 2007 they joined The Kominas, Diacritical, Al-Thawra & Vote Hezbollah on the infamous 2007 TaqwaTour and performed at the national ISNA conference where they were shut down by the police for having a female singer on stage. The original guitarist and drummer left the band and Sena has since moved to Toronto. The new lineup features Sidra Mahmood on guitar and Manal Elawar on drums.
